Prior to renovation or construction, building owners have a regulatory obligation to identify and test potential asbestos-containing materials. Kyron’s certified Building Inspectors provide a comprehensive inspection with a written report that includes sample locations, sample results, assessment, location, and quantities of all asbestos-containing materials. All work is conducted in accordance with U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Washington Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), EPA and AHERA protocols.

Kyron’s on-site asbestos project management services include oversight of the contractor’s work to ensure that it complies with the project design and applicable safety protocols. Containment areas are regularly inspected to document effective sealing of isolation barriers, work platforms, and decontamination facilities. Kyron inspects contractor waste transfers from the facility to the transport vessel (e.g., drop-off container, tractor-trailer vehicle or temporary storage and pick-up by a licensed vendor) and ensures completion of waste shipment records in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements. Once abatement is complete and before the containment is removed, Kyron’s Project Manager will perform a visual inspection and necessary air clearance monitoring to ensure the area is safe for re-occupancy.

The EPA requires most K-12 schools to develop Asbestos Operations & Maintenance Programs to communicate the locations of asbestos to appropriate parties and train building occupants how to work safely around the material. The EPA recommends that such a plan be developed for all buildings, however it is required for most schools. Kyron can assist with the creation of O&M programs, or we can review and update existing plans. Kyron’s work complies with all appropriate AHERA standards for O&M programs.
